Google reportedly ran secret ‘Project Bernanke’

Google is reportedly running a secret project called "Project Bernanke" (The information was revealed in unredacted court documents) that relies on bidding information collected from advertisers using its ad exchange to benefit the company's advertising program, reports The Wall Street Journal. First discovered by the newswire service MLex, the name of the project was reflected in an unanswered text that Google had filed as part of a Texas anti-trust lawsuit.

A federal judge has already allowed Google to contaminate the document under the link. But according to the Journal, "Bernanke" was not disclosed to outside advertisers, and it appeared to be profitable for Google, making hundreds of millions of dollars in the company. Texas filed a lawsuit against Google in December, alleging that a major search company was using competitive tactics when "Bernanke" was a major player.

Google has written in this unauthorized message that the data from Project Bernanke "resembles data stored by other purchasing tools," according to the Journal. The company has been able to access historical information about bids made by Google ads, change bids for its customers and increase the chances of clients winning auctions through the display of ads, putting competent advertising tools at risk. Texas quoted in court papers an indictment from 2013 when Google said Project Bernanke would raise $ 230 million that year.

Why Google chose to name this secret project "Bernanke" is unclear. Ben Bernanke, who was chairman of the Federal Reserve from 2006 to 2014, is probably the most well-known Bernanke in the community.
